Job Description

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Overall command of the ship ensuring the protection of her crew, cargo and the environment
  • Safeguarding the owner’s and company interests at all times
  • Managing crew including supervision, direction for work, overseeing payroll, and handling disputes and discipline
  • Maintenance of the crew and ship’s certification required for trading
  • Communication with the owners, the Company, regulatory bodies, coastal authorities, agents, Charterers and any other party as required
  • Maintenance of the ship and her equipment
  • Ensuring that each crewmember is aware of and prepared to perform their assigned duties in the event of an emergency
  • Safe navigation of the vessel as required by the Company navigation procedures and for ensuring that all navigation watch keepers are fully familiar with these procedures
  • Ensuring that the crew is familiar with and follow safe working procedures as identified in relevant regulation and the company's Safety Management System manuals
  • Ensuring that the risk assessment procedures are adhered to onboard and, where necessary, office assistance is obtained to mitigate identified risks
  • Ensuring compliance with the hours of work and rest regulations
  • Ensure the provision of emergency medical care aboard the vessel
  • Ensuring a prompt and accurate record of vessel operations is maintained through log books, reports, and Safety Management System forms
  • Recording, reporting and investigating incidents and dangerous occurrences aboard
