  • Implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) in collaboration with Instructional Resource Teams to support students with exceptionalities.
  • Establish a safe, respectful, and positive classroom culture conducive to learning and student well-being.

Regional Opportunities

Candidates may indicate their geographical preferences during the application process. Opportunities exist across our four distinct regions:

  • Avalon Region: Serving metropolitan and surrounding community schools.
  • Central Region: Spanning rural and mid-sized coastal and inland communities.
  • Western Region: Covering diverse school communities along the western coast and northern peninsula.
  • Labrador Region: Offering unique professional experiences in northern and indigenous communities. (Note: Select positions in this region may qualify for distinct provincial hiring and isolation incentives).

Eligibility & Mandatory Requirements for Newcomers

To teach in public schools in Newfoundland and Labrador, all candidates—regardless of their current country of residence—must meet or be actively working toward the following three components:

  1. Teacher Certification (Mandatory)
Candidates must hold or be eligible for a valid teaching certificate issued by the Department of Education of Newfoundland and Labrador.

    • Internationally Educated Teachers: You must have your international credentials evaluated. Required course-by-course evaluation (typically through services like WES or ICAS) to determine equivalency to a Canadian Bachelor of Education.
    • Interprovincial Applicants: If you hold a valid teaching certificate from another Canadian province, your credentials will be evaluated under the Canadian Free Trade Agreement (CFTA) for portability.
  2. Legal Right to Work in Canada
Candidates must possess or be eligible for valid legal status to work in Canada.

    • Applicants Inside Canada: Must hold a valid Open Work Permit, Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP), Permanent Residency (PR), or Canadian Citizenship.
    • Applicants Outside Canada: Support for eligible, highly qualified candidates through provincial immigration pathways (such as the Atlantic Immigration Program – AIP or the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program – NLPNP) which can lead to an employer-driven Work Permit or Permanent Residency.
  3. Language Proficiency
    • English Proficiency: Strong oral and written communication skills in English are required. Internationally educated applicants who did not complete their teacher education program in English may be required to provide proof of English language proficiency via standardized tests (e.g., IELTS Academic or TOEFL).
    • French Proficiency: For French Immersion, Intensive Core French, and Core French positions, candidates must demonstrate language proficiency. DELF B2 certification. The preferred standard is a minimum average of 70% on the DELF B2, with at least 60% scored on each of the four components. A minimum of 9 post-secondary French language courses is also required.
  4. Background Checks
    • A clear Criminal Record Check alongside a Vulnerable Sector Screening (or an equivalent police clearance certificate from your home country/countries of residence within the last 6 months) is a mandatory condition of employment.

We welcome all potential candidates to create a profile and apply for a position that aligns with their educational and professional background.

Please note that submitting an application does not guarantee an assessment, and only candidates who meet all eligibility criteria will be contacted.

We do not accept resumes via email nor any other messenger service medium.
