Job Description

Reporting to the Shop Supervisor, the Journeyperson Welder is responsible for producing customized and general products to specification by assembling and welding cut pieces of metal to finalize a product for the client. The welder operates welding equipment to weld ferrous and non-ferrous metals, including steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. The Journeyman Welder/Fitter is expected to have advanced welding skills and the ability to work independently and mentor apprentice welders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyze complex engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations.
  • Weld components in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions as certified by CWB.
  • Operate advanced manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as gas tungsten arc (GTAW), gas metal arc (GMAW), flux-cored arc (FCAW), plasma arc (PAW), shielded metal arc (SMAW), and oxy-acetylene (OAW).
  • Operate metal shaping machines such as brakes, shears, and other metal straightening and bending machines.
  • Coordinate with administration and other trades to complete projects/work orders efficiently.
  • Mentor and assist apprentices and junior welders in the development of their skills and completion of tasks.
  • Request equipment and supplies as necessary to maintain inventory and ensure availability of required items.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot welding equipment to ensure proper functioning.
  • Follow, respect, and apply all safety procedures and guidelines, keeping up-to-date on safety standards. Wear proper safety equipment at all times.
  • Occasionally work outside in various temperatures and environmental conditions as required.
  • Follow all activities identified in the Company quality management systems.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the immediate supervisor or manager.
  • Ensure that all work adheres to company standards of quality and safety.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Journeyperson Welder certification (or equivalent) from a reputable trade college or program.
  • CWB tickets (Company provided testing if required).
  • Extensive skill in the use and care of tools and equipment common to the welding trade.
  • In-depth knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions within the trade.
  • High attention to detail and quality control for finished products.
  • Strong ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Ability to mentor and provide guidance to apprentice welders and junior staff.
  • Strong initiative, autonomy, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work on various products and tasks in a flexible manner.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Bilingual (English and French) – required.
